Akron City Council to Open Applications for Vacant Seat on Citizens’ Police Oversight Board on February 16, 2024

Applications will be due by March 1, 2024

Akron, Ohio, February 14, 2024 — Beginning on Friday, February 16, 2024, Akron City Council will reopen applications to fill the seat on the Citizens’ Police Oversight Board recently vacated by Diane Lewis.

“We wish Ms. Lewis well and thank her for her service on the Citizens’ Police Oversight Board, said City Council President Margo Sommerville. “As we look to fill the seat vacated by Ms. Lewis, we remain committed to seating another Akron resident who is passionate about the increased engagement of the citizens of Akron in the community policing efforts in our city.  That individual must be representative of the diverse communities within Akron and willing to lend the breadth of his/her/their experience to fulfill the Board’s mission.”

The application process is open to all qualifying Akron residents and all other requirements of Charter Section 68a will be followed. Preference will be given to applicants living in Wards not currently represented on the Citizens’ Police Oversight Board. The individual selected will serve out the remaining portion of the vacated term, which ends on February 28th, 2027.

Applications may be submitted beginning at 10 a.m. on Friday, February 16, 2024. They will be available on the City Council website. Completed applications, along with a copy of a current resume if available, can be emailed to citizenoversight@akronohio.gov or delivered in person to the Akron Municipal Building, 166 S. High St., 3rd Floor, Akron, OH 44308 (City Hall). Hard copies of the application will be available for pickup at City Hall. To be considered, all applications must be received by no later than noon ET (12:00 p.m.) on Friday, March 1, 2024. Prior applicants need not reapply, as their applications will automatically be reviewed with those most recently submitted.
