Akron City Council Denounces Violent Assault on Female APD Officer

Akron, OH — The following statement can be attributed to Akron City Council in response to an attack on a female Akron Police Officer Monday afternoon while the officer tried to make an arrest in the 900 block of Copley Road:

“As City Council, we are grateful that the officer who was violently assaulted is recovering well. We are thankful for her courage, dedication, and commitment to protecting the residents of Akron. An assault on one of our police officers is a serious matter, and we stand firmly with the officer, her family, and the Akron Police Department during this difficult time.

The officer’s actions in defending herself from a vicious attack, which included being punched in the face and bitten, demonstrated extraordinary bravery and are a testament to her training, professionalism, and skill.

Her courage and determination under such difficult circumstances are truly commendable and speak highly of her commitment to protecting the safety and well-being of our community. We are proud of her service and grateful for the dedication she demonstrated in the face of danger.

Attacking a police officer is unacceptable under any circumstances and should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

We stand in solidarity with the victim of this violent assault and with all members of law enforcement who have been victims of similar crimes. Those who put their lives on the line every day to protect our communities deserve our respect, support, and gratitude.

We also want to express our appreciation to the fellow officers and first responders who responded to the incident and provided assistance.

Our thoughts remain with the officer as she continues her recovery. We wish her a full and speedy recovery and look forward to seeing her return to duty.”
