The severe storms that raked Akron in late May and early June cost the city nearly $750,000 in emergency repairs. Monday evening, Council approved the expenses incurred to repair storm sewer and road damage on Jonathan Avenue, Riverview Road, Cuyahoga Street, Bath Road, Kling Street, Tallmadge Avenue and Oakdale Avenue. To put those costs in perspective, Council approved $500,000 for the fire department to buy a new pumper truck, two SUV command vehicles, refurbish a pumper truck and replace an emergency generator and transfer switch at a fire station, and $50,000 for the police department to buy four used vehicles for the narcotics bureau. The meeting concluded with Council passing a resolution welcoming LeBron James back to Northeast Ohio and an announcement that the city and The LeBron James Family Foundation are jointly planning a welcome home event for James.
