Two resolutions were passed by Council at Monday night's meeting. One was to congratulate and honor retiring attorney and civil rights leader Edwin L. Parms for his lifetime of achievement and service to the community. The second was a controversial resolution urging Governor Kasich to preserve state funding for Planned Parenthood. Council was divided over the resolution - eight voting for it and four against it - because of the organization's role in providing abortions. Council Person At Large Linda Omobien spoke for the resolution saying that she was deeply disturbed by a pending bill to cut funding. She characterized the bill as a loss of women's rights.
