One week after East Akron Community House board members appealed to Council for support, former-ward 5 Councilman Ken Jones urged Council to save the services provided by EACH, but to let the organization collapse. During the public speaking portion of Council, Jones recalled his and others’ efforts spanning four years to help resolve problems at EACH, but the board continually refused assistance. “The board is not accountable. Save the services, but don’t save that organization and board,” he said. Council members weighed in with varying opinions about Council’s responsibilities, but President Garry Moneypenny said he was not prepared to intervene or form a special committee until an in-progress investigation of EACH by the Ohio Attorney General’s office is complete.
