On Monday, Akron City Council passed an ordinance authorizing the Director of Finance to enter into an agreement with The University of Akron School of Law to provide an amount not to exceed $25,000 for its expungement program in 2019. This program has been in existence since 2011. People can have up to five felonies expunged and an unlimited number of misdemeanors. This program also works to help people have their driver’s licenses reinstated. At each clinic, volunteer law students, lawyers, magistrates and judges see over 200 people in a 3-hour period, and the program runs 11 months out of the year.
