Council pulls trigger on deal for new guns

October 27, 2015

Akron police officers soon will be receiving new duty handguns thanks to a deal Public Safety Chair Donnie Kammer called a “no-brainer.” Austrian gun manufacturer Glock offered to sell the city new 9 mm handguns for $75 each with the trade-in of the city’s old duty handguns. The city will pay $36,000 for 480 new guns valued at $193,000 retail. Most cities replace police handguns every 10 years. Akron’s guns were 13 years old.
