City takes first step to start construction company

March 03, 2015

Legislation was introduced Monday evening that would allow the city to spend up to $1.9 million on six concrete trucks and four dump trucks. The fleet purchase would be the first step toward starting a city construction company employing primarily Akron residents to work on the sewer project, skirting Ohio laws that ban employee residency quotas for contractors. The proposed legislation, which also notes the difficulty Akron has had finding contractors to supply the volume of concrete needed on the city’s timeline, will be considered by Council next week.
