City gives land to Habitat

June 21, 2010

Five city-owned properties with dilapidated houses that are scheduled for the wrecking ball were given to Habitat for Humanity of Summit County at the June 14 City Council meeting.

The legislation transferring ownership was offered by Planning Committee Chairman and At Large Councilman Jeff Fusco under Akron's Neighborhood Stabilization Program. Habitat will build new houses for low-to-moderate income families on the properties. The properties given to Habitat are 698 Corice St., 561 Schiller Ave., 35 Royal Place; 37 Vesper St.; and 185 E. York St.
