Shammas Malik was elected to Akron City Council in 2019, and represents Ward 8, where he grew up. He serves on four City Council committees - Public Safety, Budget and Finance, Parks and Recreation, and Rules. Shammas believes deeply that together we can build a stronger and more equitable Akron.
Born and raised in Northwest Akron, Shammas attended Firestone High School and participated in the IB program, which helped him earn a scholarship to The Ohio State University. At Ohio State, Shammas studied Political Science and International Studies. He went on to graduate cum laude from Harvard Law School. After finishing his law degree, Shammas moved home to contribute to the community that made such an impact on him, spending two years as an Assistant Director of Law in the City of Akron Law Department.

Ward 8 meetings
Shammas hosts Ward 8 meetings on the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 6:30 PM. The meetings are held at the Northwest Community Center and livestreamed on Facebook (facebook.com/AkronCityCouncilWard8).
