Vote delayed again on school bond and retiree benefits

September 27, 2016

No vote was taken for the third consecutive week on legislation that would make changes to supplemental benefits for city retirees or an ordinance funding a new high school. Council raised questions about lawsuits threatened by the unions representing city workers if supplemental benefit are changed. Council also wants more specific details regarding the future of Kenmore and Garfield High Schools. The school administration has said there is only enough money to build one high school. Council passed a resolution renaming the Ellet Community Center the "Robert J. Otterman Ellet Community Center." Otterman was a city councilman and teacher, counselor and coach in Ellet. His teaching career spanned 31 years and his public service career 42 years.
