Utility relief proposals discussed

July 12, 2016

After Council discussed the merits of passing legislation that would protect homeowners, renters and landlords from excessive utility bills caused by a burst pipes or leaking toilets, the city administration presented Council with a new Utility Bill Relief Policy addressing those concerns. The new policy offers 100 percent reduction and forgiveness of excessive charges caused by leaks, but it places limits on how often one can apply for relief to ensure that the policy is not misused. Council also passed a resolution commending three Good Samaritans who jumped into Summit Lake to save a woman and her child from a submerged car.
