A plan to build a three-story, 89,000 square-foot addition on the Signet campus (formerly Sterling Jewelers) was placed on next week’s consent agenda, which means it is likely to pass without discussion. The $18 million expansion will create space for an additional 100 to 200 employees. Council also approved selling 5 acres of land in the Firestone North Urban Renewal area to Akron Paint and Varnish, one of Akron’s oldest businesses. The company plans to build a warehouse and testing facility on the property, adding 10 new jobs when completed and 30 to 40 new jobs over the next three years.
