State Legislature draws Council's ire

April 21, 2015

Two resolutions passed by Council Monday evening targeted the state legislature for ongoing attempts to cut funding to cities and home rule. Council voiced “strong opposition” to a law that would cut state funding to cities operating photo speed enforcement programs. It also opposed a state budget amendment that could block cities from using Project Labor Agreements to increase the hiring of city residents on city jobs. Council also passed a resolution of support for Issue 8, the Akron-Summit County Public Library levy that is on the May 5 ballot.
