Resolution urges Congress to back police body camera proposal

December 09, 2014

City Council unanimously passed a resolution urging Congress to pass legislation enacting the Body Worn Camera Partnership Program. President Barrack Obama proposed last week to make Federal funds available to local law enforcement agencies for body cameras. “This is a hot issue and we Council members can feel the heat,” said Ward 7 Council Representative Donnie Kammer. Council President Garry Moneypenny called the proposal “a phenomenal idea,” but reminded Council members that the proposed program required local communities match the funds 50-50. “We will have to find money,” he said.
