The city wants to purchase new handheld water meter reading equipment to replace the two, decade-old systems now being used. The new equipment will read both residential and commercial water meters, which are currently checked by separate systems, from a vehicle that drives city streets early in the morning. The new system will take the readings of more than 90,000 meters monthly. Council is expected to approve the request next week.
