New era for Council begins

December 15, 2015

A new era for Akron City Council began Monday evening. Four of Council's 13 Representatives participated in their last Council meeting, and the new Council - all Representatives now serving four-year terms - were sworn into office. Gone are long-time Councilmen Mike Williams and Jim Hurley, as well DeAndre Forney and Jack Hefner. Forney and Hefner were appointed to Council earlier this year to fill vacancies resulting from the upheaval in the mayor's office. New Council members include Bruce Kilby (W2), Veronica Sims (At large), Zack Milkovich (W10) and Jeff Fusco (At large). Fusco is returning to Council after steadying the ship as interim mayor. Kilby also is a returning Councilman. The first meeting of the new City Council is Monday, January 4. Council officers will be elected at that meeting.
