Grants and loans made available for lead cover up

October 25, 2010

City Council passed a resolution establishing the week of Oct. 24 as Lead Poisoning Prevention Week and encouraged families to apply for grants and loans to create a lead-free environment for children.

Lead is a major health hazard in Akron where the majority of homes were built pre-1978 when lead-based paint was the norm. The money that is available can be used to cover or replace siding, windows, doors, porches and other surfaces painted with lead-based paint.
