Council approved the Furnace Street Urban Renewal Plan Monday evening, positioning the city to provide tax increment financing for businesses moving into the Renewal Area. The legislation resulted from the recent acquisition of a century-building in the Renewal Area by White Hot Properties, which is renovating the building. Akron marketing firm WhiteSpace Creative plans to move into the building next summer. Urban Renewal Areas are usually created to spur development in blighted areas.
