Free vehicle safety inspections set for June 20

June 10, 2015

The Akron Independent Police Auditor, Akron Police Department, Summit County Sheriff’s Department and the Ohio State Highway Patrol announced they will conduct free vehicle safety inspections at two locations on June 20: the Giant Eagle parking lot at 484 E. Waterloo Rd. from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., and Arlington Plaza from 2 p.m. to  4 p.m. The vehicle safety inspections will be hosted by Council Representatives Donnie Kammer, Ward ,7 and Tara Mosley-Samples, Ward 5. The inspections are to ensure the safety of vehicles. There will not be any enforcement action on any person or vehicle that does not pass inspection.

In some cases the owner of the vehicle may receive a gift card from Auto Zone, O’Reilly’s or Advance Auto Parts to help those that cannot afford the cost of a headlight, tail light or other safety-related part. The auto parts stories will make most of the repairs of bulbs free of charge when bulbs are purchased with the gift cards. Additionally, Brian W. Thomas President of AAA Akron Auto Club has provided 10 AAA certificates for 5 memberships to be given away at each location for vehicles that pass inspections. There will also be bicycle safety helmets and the Giant Eagle has declared safety day at their store.
