Community activist DeAndre Forney was selected from 17 candidates to fill the At Large seat on Council that was vacated when Jeff Fusco became Mayor. Forney’s knowledge of city issues and community involvement in the Urban League, Young Democrats and United Way were cited as attributes that separated him from the field. Selection Committee Chair Margo Sommerville said Forney also met a key criteria: he is not running for Council in the November election. She said the Committee did not want to give any candidate an advantage by recommending them for the vacant seat. Council approved Forney's appointment unanimously.
