About a dozen victims of flooding in West Akron asked Council for help ranging from cleaning debris from sewers to buying their flooded homes during Monday evening’s public comment period. The residents, who live on Jefferson Avenue and Westover Drive, said flooding is a recurring problem during heavy rains. Some said they had sustained losses of $30,000 or more from last week’s storm. After the Council meeting, the residents met with several Council representatives as well as John Moore, city service director. “We will take a comprehensive look at the area to see if there is something we can do,” Moore said. He also promised to seek federal assistance for the flood victims. Moore said last week’s event was a “500-year storm,” and Akron’s west-side neighborhoods received four inches of rain in less than one hour.
