Council puts hold on oil and gas lease

September 15, 2015

Following a rash of citizen complaints about both oil and gas wells in the city and rushing legislation through Council, the Planning Committee asked for time on two pieces of new legislation that would have authorized the lease of two city-owned properties to an oil and gas drilling company. Citizens will have a week to let their Council representatives know how they feel about the leases before Council reconsiders the legislation. Council also approved spending $95,000 to refurbish one medical unit for the Akron Fire Department. It is the eighth unit the department has asked to refurbish, saving the city about $320,000 versus the cost of new units.
