Council President Keith Lays Out Plan to Bridge Divide Among Members

September 26, 2017

In response to recent acrimonious dialog and debate among council members, President Marilyn Keith announced at Monday’s council meeting that she is implementing a three-part plan to bridge an emerging racial divide on council. Keith said council members have started meeting with an expert on conflict resolution from The University of Akron who volunteered to help them understand differences and deal appropriately with dissension. To resolve questions concerning which committees are assigned legislation, she proposed placing any legislation that does not clearly fit into a committee with the rules committee for discussion. Additionally, she said she will bring in an expert on parliamentary procedures to resolve questions pertaining to Robert’s Rules of Order and Council’s rules.
