Akron City Council accepted the resignation of longtime President and Ward 3 Councilman Marco Sommerville at Monday evening's meeting and passed a resolution expressing appreciation for his many years of service. Council is now accepting resumes and letters of interest in the Ward 3 Council seat until 4 p.m. December 27. Council President Garry Moneypenny said he hopes to fill the seat at the next Council meeting on January 7. "We are committed to having a representative for Akron's Ward 3 with as little downtime as possible," Moneypenny said. "The Ward 3 residents deserve representation without interruption, especially since we have time to complete the search and interviews during this holiday break." Interested candidates must be residents of Ward 3 and have lived in the ward for the past year.
