Council creates committee to study food trucks

July 09, 2013

At large Council Representative Jeff Fusco will chair a special committee convened by City Council to study the impact food trucks may have on downtown restaurants. A group of food truck operators asked Council to change Akron’s laws that strictly limit them to operating only at special events. They want to begin serving the lunchtime crowd downtown, but local restaurant owners are opposed. They say the low-overhead food trucks will take business from their brick-and-mortar businesses and could cost the city jobs and tax income. Also named to the special committee was Ward 3 Council Representative Margo Sommerville.
