Moneypenny's resignation makes At Large Representative and Council President Jeff Fusco Mayor of Akron

Council Representatives Linda Omobien and Tara Mosley-Samples have requested a special meeting of Council Thursday, June 11 at 12:15 p.m. to discuss who will fill President Jeff Fusco's seat as an At Large Representative and President of Council. Council rules make Vice President of Council Mike Freeman President when Fusco vacates the seat to become mayor, but the rules also allow Council to elect new officers at any time. The Ward 10 Council seat vacated by Garry Moneypenny when he became mayor also is unfilled. The resignation of Mayor Moneypenny and the succession by Council President Jeff Fusco take effect midnight Wednesday. During the regular meeting of Council, an ordinance that makes $5,000 in grant money available to neighborhood-based organizations in each Ward was approved. The Department of Neighborhood Assistance will administer the grants with input from the Ward Council Representatives. Ward 4 Representative Russ Neal originated and sponsored the ordinance.
