Council backs plan to treat opiate addictions

July 29, 2014

Noting that heroin is the leading cause of accidental deaths in Ohio, City Council passed a resolution supporting the “Breaking Addiction Act of 2014,” a House Bill that will help fund a test program for community-based opiate addiction treatment. “We’re way behind in the war on drugs,” said Council President Garry Moneypenny. “Incarceration is not always the answer or the solution. This aims towards giving care.” Monday evening’s meeting was the last before Council’s annual Summer recess. The next scheduled meeting is September 8.
