Council approves body camera test, raises campaign contribution limits

Council approved an ordinance allowing the Akron Police Department to test body-worn cameras at Monday's Council meeting - the last meeting of the calendar year. Taser International will give 30 cameras to the police department for testing and evaluation. Council also approved raising the limits for campaign contributions to ward and citywide candidates. Maximum contributions rose from $400 to $500 for Ward candidates and from $650 to $750 for At Large and Mayoral candidates. Council last passed a contribution limit increase in 2012. According to the City Charter, Council must reevaluate contribution limits every two years. Council is now on its holiday break.The next scheduled meeting is Monday, January 5, 2015.
