Council Monday approved the purchase of a one-year subscriptions to Balancing Act, an online software program designed to make the city's spending more transparent and accountable and to invite citizen participation in the budget process. Akron already is an Ohio Online Open Checkbook city. Council also approved plans to seek bids for a new Fire Station No. 2 to be built at the intersection of East Market and East Exchange Streets. The estimated $4.3 million construction cost will consume all of the fire department's first year receipts from the recent Issue 4 tax levy passed for fire, police and roadwork.
