Council passed legislation at its May 16 meeting that authorizes the city to apply for a $2 million Healthy Homes Production Program grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
If the city is awarded the grant, funds for repairs to roofs, foundations, gutters, downspouts and lead removal will be available for more than 250 homes of low income families and the elderly. Councilman At large Jeff Fusco, who introduced the legislation, said that an additional benefit of the grant would be job creation and training for construction tradesmen and contractors. See Council's discussion of this and other legislation during the May 16 Council meeting.
