A new gateway to the Summa campus will soon start to emerge at the corner East Market and North Adams Streets. Council Monday night approved conditional use zoning that will allow Summa Health Systems to build a 60-bed rehabilitation hospital that will employ about 150 people, Summa officials said.
Council also passed conditional use zoning legislation that paves the way for a Timken subsidiary, TSB Metal Recycling, to establish a business in Akron. The new business will take over the operations of Akron City Scrap and Salvage at the corner of 11th Street SW and Flora Avenue. TSB will invest $5 million into property improvements that include adding an 18,000 sq. foot building and 12,000 sq. ft. sorting area. The operation currently has 29 employees.
