Council approved legislation that will result in the addition of 12 new police officers in the Community Oriented Policing Services program. The legislation authorized the mayor to enter into an agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice, which is funding the training and hiring of military veterans as police officers. Council also approved leasing city-owned property in Highland Square to Wally Waffle, which is moving from its Locust Street location to make way for Akron Children’s Hospital expansion.
