The success of an Akron Global Business Accelerator startup has led to a University of Akron and city partnership seeking a $2 million state grant for the Bounce Project, a new business incubator targeting tech companies. The plan is to build out space in a city-owned building at 526 S. Main St. for Bounce. The new incubator will replace space lost to startup Echogen Power Systems, which wants to buy the city-owned building it is currently renting to expand capacity. Echogen has been paying for maintenance and renovations to the building and has offered an additional $500,000 to acquire it. Council approved the grant application for Bounce and asked for a week to review the purchase agreement with Echogen.
