The city of Akron became an investor in actor/producer Corbin Bernsen's film about the All-American Soap Box Derby Monday night when City Council approved a $25,000 expenditure to help finance the film.
"This movie puts Akron in the spotlight and portrays the Soap Box Derby as a family-oriented event," said Tina Merlitti, Ward 7, Chairperson of the Budget and Finance Committee. "This investment shows our support for the Soap Box Derby. We believe this movie will be successful, and that will help the Soap Box Derby recover from its financial difficulties plus ensure that the city will recoup its investment with profit."
Filming will continue through this year's event, and the movie is expected to be released around next year's All American Soap Box Derby.
