Citizens ask Council for police body cameras

December 02, 2014

On the day that President Barack Obama proposed spending $75 million in federal funds for police body cameras, Akron residents asked City Council to find money to buy body cameras for the Akron police department. During the public comment period following Council’s regular meeting, citizens voiced concerns about the use of force by police and said that recording engagements between police and citizens was the only way to monitor the behavior of both parties. Council President Garry Moneypenny assured the citizens that their concerns were heard and that Council would address the issue.
