January 12, 2016

City Council approved placing a charter amendment on the March 23 ballot that will allow the mayor to hire a human resources director. The new position would replace the personnel director, who is appointed by the Civil Service Commission. The change was recommended by the Akron Blue Ribbon Task Force, which was created by Mayor Horrigan to evaluate how and why the city operates as it does. In other news, Council approved conditional use zoning needed to move forward with construction of the new Anne T. Case Community Learning Center. Council members also requested a meeting with school officials to assess the status and future of the citywide school rebuilding project.
