Things will be looking much brighter for the Akron Aeros this season.
That's because of a $30,000 re-lighting project authorized Monday by Akron City Council.
Council passed legislation which authorizes the city to open bids to replace field lighting bulbs at Canal Park Stadium.
Public Service Committee member Sandra Kurt said the expenditure was found necessary after inspections showed field lighting lacking.
"The current lighting does not meet Minor League lighting standards," Kurt (W-8) said. "Akron's Canal Park lighting has naturally degraded over the years since the park opened."
It is not yet known how many bulbs will need to be replaced, Kurt said. She expects the renovations to be completed by the Aeros' first home game of the season on April 15.
