City Council passed an ordinance Monday that will allow Akron and Cleveland to enter into a mutual aid agreement so that Akron police officers can work at the Republican National Convention in July. Police from many Ohio communities and other states will be needed to assist the Cleveland Police Department during the convention. Cleveland will cover all costs for officers who work the convention, pay for special training and provide special equipment that Akron will be allowed to keep, including police bicycles. Council also addressed legislation Monday that limits the length of time that Akron residents can keep dumpsters, bagsters and other temporary storage or waste containers on their property to 30 consecutive days and 90 days in a calendar year.
