Akron City Council voted to enter an agreement with Akron Soul Train to lease and eventually sell an .82-acre land parcel located near the Northside Arts District at 100 N. Canal St. Akron Soul Train, a 2015 Knights Arts Challenge Winner, plans to break ground this spring to develop a residential artists' village that will utilize refurbished shipping containers, rail cars and tiny houses. Council approved the lease for $60,000, the appraised value of the property, plus four percent interest over the 20 years. At the end of the time period, Akron Soul Train will own the land.
