Akron Becomes Purple Heart City

October 31, 2017

Canton, Mogadore, Green and many other cities have already done it, and now Akron has joined the ranks of America’s Purple Heart Cities. Council passed a resolution Monday evening making Akron a Purple Heart City to recognize the dedication, service and sacrifice made by those who have been wounded or killed in defense of the United States of America. At Large Council Representative Jeff Fusco, who sponsored the Purple Heart legislation, said the designation is another way for the city to honor men and women in the Armed Services. The city also supports veterans by providing a 20 percent boost in employment test scores.
