Veronica Sims (D) was elected to Council in November 2015. She chairs the Economic Development Committee and serves on the Public Safety, Parks & Recreation and Health & Social Services Committees.
Sims, who is an independent consultant, has a Master’s in Public Administration and Bachelor’s of Science in Criminal Justice/Political Science from The University of Akron. She is a graduate of Leadership Akron 2014. She attended Garfield High School.
Her memberships include: Akron Municipal Drug Court Citizens Advisory; chair of NAACP Political Action Committee; Northeast Ohio Four County Regional Planning and Development Organization (NEFCO); Federated Democratic Woman of Summit County; and instructor at Arlington Church of God Children’s Ministry.
Awards include: Champion for the Environment, Akron League of Women; Outstanding Service Award, Ohio School Board Association; Polar Bear International Founders Award, Summit Sustainability Coalition; and Woman of Courage, Woman History Project Woman of the Year.
