1978. Served 10 years as Ward 10 Council Representative and 12 years on city staff as Deputy Service Director, then was re-elected to Council as At-large candidate in 2010. Also served as interim mayor from June-December 2015.
Led team that implemented the 311 Call Center and worked to combine Akron and Summit County Weights and Measures Departments to reduce overall tax burden. Obtained permanent funding for Keep Akron Beautiful. Worked with Akron Recreation Bureau to secure and help start the Akron Marathon and the OHSAA Girls State Championships. As Akron's 61st Mayor, obtained EPA approval for CSO projects that lowered costs yet met environmental goals. Worked with Mayor Alfred Vanderpuije of Accra, Ghana, to develop a cooperative agreement between the cities of Akron and Accra.
||Married to Helen, they have two children and four grandchildren.
